Finance (NurseLedger)
NurseLedger is a set of educational estimators for the money side of nursing: what a shift pattern is likely to bring home, how two travel contracts compare once stipends and real costs are counted, and how to budget around an income that changes week to week. Every figure is an estimate you can sanity-check, not a tax calculation.
What you can model
- Income from a shift pattern, including differentials and overtime, as an estimate rather than a payslip.
- Travel contracts compared on realistic take-home instead of the advertised weekly number.
- The costs a headline rate hides — housing beyond the stipend, state licensing, travel, and unpaid gaps between assignments.
- A simple budget shaped around variable, shift-driven income.
Why the headline rate misleads
A travel package usually splits into a modest taxable base wage plus non-taxable housing and per-diem stipends, and the stipends are only legitimately non-taxable if you actually qualify under the tax-home rules. Two contracts with the same advertised total can land very differently once housing costs, licensing fees and time between assignments are counted.
Comparing estimated take-home after realistic expenses is the only fair comparison, and it is the comparison this module is built to make.
Local-first, with optional sync
Your figures are stored on the device and work signed out. Signing in lets this module sync to your own account. Nothing is sent to an employer, an agency or a tax authority.
What this does not do
NurseLedger is educational and is not tax, financial or legal advice. It does not file anything, does not know your tax home or filing status, does not model your state and local tax accurately, and cannot tell you whether a stipend is legitimately non-taxable for you. For a real answer, especially about tax-home rules, talk to a qualified professional.
Frequently asked questions
Is this tax advice?
No. It is an educational estimator. Your actual tax depends on facts it does not have, so treat every output as a rough model.
Why is my estimate different from my payslip?
Because real pay includes employer-specific differentials, benefit deductions, retirement contributions and precise tax withholding that a general estimator cannot reproduce.
Can it tell me if a travel contract is a good deal?
It can show you the comparison on estimated take-home after the costs you enter. Whether that is a good deal is your call, and it depends on things no calculator sees.
Does it connect to my bank or payroll?
No. There is no bank connection, no payroll integration and no account linking. Every figure is one you enter.
