Brain Sheet (ShiftOS)
ShiftOS is a digital brain sheet — the folded paper a nurse carries through a shift, rebuilt as a card per patient with a running task list and a handoff summary you can copy out. It is the most privacy-sensitive part of Nursana, so it is the one module that is structurally excluded from account sync: what you write here stays on the device.
How a shift runs
- Add a card per patient using room or bed identifiers — never a name.
- Keep tasks against each card and tick them as the shift moves.
- Filter to what is still open when you are trying to work out what is left.
- Produce a structured summary to read or paste into your own documentation at handoff.
Why it never leaves the device
Shift notes are the closest thing in this app to protected health information, and the safest way to protect them is not to hold them. ShiftOS is absent from the list of modules the sync service knows about, so there is no code path that writes it to an account, and signing in changes nothing about where it lives.
The trade-off is real and worth stating plainly: because there is no server copy, there is no recovery. If you lose or wipe the device, the brain sheet is gone.
Room numbers, not names
The intended use is room or bed identifiers and clinical shorthand you would already write on paper. Keeping identifiers out of it means a lost phone is a lost worksheet rather than a privacy incident.
What this does not do
ShiftOS is not a medical record and nothing in it is documentation. It does not connect to an EHR, does not import a patient list, and does not transmit anywhere. Anything that must be charted still goes into your employer system, and the brain sheet is cleared when the shift ends.
Frequently asked questions
Does my brain sheet sync to the cloud?
No. ShiftOS is deliberately excluded from account sync. There is no server copy, whether you are signed in or not.
Should I put patient names in it?
No. Use room or bed identifiers. The tool is designed so that losing the device does not expose anyone.
Can I get my brain sheet back if I lose my phone?
No. That is the direct cost of never storing a copy. Anything you need to keep should be charted in your employer system before the shift ends.
Does it write to my hospital EHR?
No. It produces text you can read or copy; entering anything into the record is still done by you, in the EHR.
